Does a vocoder or talk box improve or enhance the voices of avg. or even bad signers?

I just herd "ual " by Snoop Doggy Dogg, & I was surprised that that's him singing (w/ a vocoder). I thought it was, like, T-Pain, or somebody. I'm sure that many vocalists use the vocoder or talk box for aesthetic effect or perhaps cuz it sounds cool. (I no that Peter Frampton is quite known 4 such a thing as demonstr8d in an Geico ad. & don't 4get Roger & Zap) If any of yall sing 4 a living or on the side, do u use a vocoder? & is a talk box or vocoder helpful 4 average singers or is it primarily for aesthetics?
