Is my cousin on crack cocaine?

My aunt suspects my 41 year old cousin is addicted to crack cocaine. He is always Flat broke. He pays no bills at my aunts. Plus he is always depressed. He pawns items weekly for cash. For 3 years now he rarely works, sleeps all day, and disappears for days at a time. He rarely has an appetite anymore. Additionally Ive discovered he somehow now has two broke hands at his wrist and a broken leg. He's hospitalized now on morphine for pain. He claims to have had a bad accident of some sort . 2 of my buddies say when you owe your crack supplier its not uncommon for them to cause you bodily harm or kill you. This is what my family suspects. Is this common for drug dealers to cause serious bodily harm when you owe them money?. If its true Im going to seek professional help for my cousin. He's a nice guy but I think he may be in over his head and unable to help himself anymore.
