Can someone please help me figure out how to use linear approximation to estimate error in this math problem?

This is a simple problem using the pythagorean theorum in conjunction with theories of decelleration in calculus. Error actually becomes length divided by gravity divided by 2 and then multiplied by 2 * 3.3333. Check your results on www.realmath.org and see how easy this is.
